Starbase G-6 was referenced in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode “Hide and Q” Prior to the beginning of the episode, the Enterprise-D dropped off Counselor Troi at Starbase G-6, and from there, she traveled home to Betazed. In my fan-fiction of Star Trek: Lambda Paz, the USS Lambda Paz and the Seventh Fleet have been operating out of Starbase G-6 ever since the Dominion invasion of Betazed. And from there, the Seventh Fleet has conducted the Kalandra Campaign, one of the major operations during the war’s second year.

So maybe it was named after the third note in a whistle register – maybe that’s the sound those little whistles make when you come aboard the station? 😉
Or because near Betazed they telepathically tell you the real name.
